The Burkard 'Logmatic' is a compact, single channel colony counter, aesthetically designed for the rapid counting of particles under a wide range of conditions. These include routine bacterial populations, insects in a conductive media, spore concentrations, soil animals, and industrial applications. The precision probes are pressure marking for petri dishes, conductive marking, a plain stainless contact probe, or a sensitive pressure probe with plastic tip.

Conducting probes having an input impedance of 10 megohms operate over large areas of low conductivity, and the low probe potential prevents damage to the objects being counted. Counting speeds exceed 25 i.p.s. and a 'bleep' indicates that the count is registered. Light sources and proximity sensors can also be used to activate the counter.

Standard felt tip pens can be of advantage for simultaneous colour marking of the particle and to make notes without changing probes. Logmatic employs solid state electronics with clear LED display and push button zero. The case is a rugged plastic design with a convenient carrying handle that folds flat, and forms an elevating foot when in use.
