Summary
Burkard manufacture three models of peristaltic pump for continuous
segmented flow analysis: 15, 30 and 45 channels. These precision
pumps are fixed speed and have detachable pressure platens for
easy tube replacement. A standby mode is included for non-analysing
periods to save valuable reagents. A pressure release and tensioning
mechanism helps to increase tube life.
Product Details
Burkard peristaltic pumps for continuous flow analysers
are available in 15 & 30 channel units. 45 channels are offered
for specific applications. The construction of this type of pump
ensures long tube lifeand precision flow rates 24 hours a day.
They have two pumping rates; 4rpm for analysing and a standby
mode providing 5 secs rotation in every 30 secs. This allows
a valuable saving in reagents during non analysing periods.
Platen assemblies
A 30 tube pump has two detachable platen assemblies.
Pivoted at one end they snap on and off easily for tube access.
The platens close uniformly on the 15 or 17 tubes using the pressure
lever applying adequate downward pressure to all tubes simultaneously
irrespective of bore sizes. The forward end of the platen housing
is locked by latching pins that operate safety switches to remove
power and stop the pump when rotating parts are exposed.
Tube fitting and tensioning
One
of the many features of the pumps is the tube tensioning and
de-tensioning. There is no obstruction when fitting standard
length 2 bridge tubes to the pump, and once in position they
are tensioned on start-up by a simple lever at the rear of the
pump. With the lever in the forward position and platen assembly
removed each tube is inserted in a locating groove in the retaining
blocks and secured by plastic bridges cemented to the tube.
Because the tubes flex after a 7 day analysing
period each set of 15 may be re-tensioned by one of four positions
of the tube retaining block. So, although the tubes benefit from
de-tensioning overnight the movable tube retaining blocks ensure
the tubes are correctly aligned to avoid snaking.
Tube retaining blocks will accept both large bore
and small bore tubes side by side, and when there is a need to
increase pump capacity for smaller tubes the 17 way blocks (optional)
provide 4 extra positions.
Engineering quality
Series 2000 analytical systems rely on precision-uniform
flow rates essential for quality analysis. Engineering design
and robust construction of Burkard peristaltic pumps include
the following:
-
Two powered roller assemblies each with 12
stainless steel contra-rotating rollers are supported on
a 20mm diameter central shaft.
-
Heavy duty sealed ball journals mount either
end in the pump frame.
-
A geared reduction motor solidly mounted beneath
the cages is sealed from liquids resulting from fractured
pump tubes by an anodised metal tray with waste outlet.
-
The final drive to the roller assemblies is
by chain which may be adjusted and finally tensioned by the
motor mounting screw.
Control panel
The control panel housing blends in with the design
of all complementary instruments that form the complete analyser.
It contains the solid state standby timer and control switches
which are fully protected by a hinged cover. The housing is easily
removed for servicing the motor bearings, timer unit and adjustment
to the time interval.
Operating safety and maintenance
During use all moving parts are adequately guarded
and all electrical components protected, fused and fully compliant
to CE test standards. Burkard pumps are maintenance free in operation.
